This project involved waterproofing the terrace of a 100-year-old heritage property in Vadodara's historic district. The challenge: protect the structure from water damage while respecting architectural conservation requirements.

We recommended: breathable waterproofing membrane compatible with heritage materials, repointing using lime mortar matching original composition, installation of subsurface capillary break, and beneath-surface drainage system.
We applied a vapor-permeable polyurethane membrane allowing the structure to breathe while preventing water penetration. The system is reversible (can be removed without damage), maintains historic appearance (no visible changes), and accommodates thermal movement in century-old masonry. We used lime-based pointing mortar matching original materials.
Challenges included: working on occupied building with minimal disruption, navigating heritage conservation board approvals, accommodating century-old masonry with irregular surface, and testing materials for heritage compatibility. We worked evenings and weekends to minimize tenant disruption. Material approval took 6 weeks but ensured conservation compliance.
Post-waterproofing, the building experienced its first leak-free monsoon season in decades. Interior dampness eliminated. Tenants reported improved comfort and air quality.
